Help Us Protect the
Dogs Who Need Us Most
Sadly, Three Little Pitties Rescue has confirmed cases of canine distemper within our program. This is news no rescue ever wants to share.
For an organization that saves thousands of dogs every year, the health and safety of the animals in our care is our highest priority. The moment these cases were confirmed, our team immediately shifted into crisis response mode.
We are currently testing dogs throughout our program, implementing enhanced safety protocols, increasing medical monitoring, and working closely with veterinary professionals to contain the spread and protect the nearly 1,000 animals currently depending on us.
While adoptions remain open, our day-to-day operations have slowed significantly as our team focuses on containment, treatment, prevention, and healing.

What Is Canine Distemper?
Canine distemper is a highly contagious viral disease that affects a dog’s respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems.
The virus can spread through direct contact between dogs, shared environments, contaminated surfaces, and airborne exposure. Puppies, unvaccinated dogs, and dogs with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable.
Symptoms can include:
-
Fever
-
Coughing and respiratory illness
-
Vomiting and diarrhea
-
Loss of appetite
-
Lethargy
-
Neurological symptoms such as tremors or seizures
Distemper can be life-threatening, and there is no cure. Treatment focuses on supportive care, symptom management, and giving each dog the best possible chance of recovery.

What We Are Doing
Our team has taken immediate action to protect the dogs in our care.
✓ Testing dogs throughout our program
✓ Isolating and monitoring potentially exposed animals
✓ Implementing enhanced sanitation and disinfection protocols
✓ Restricting movement where necessary to prevent further exposure
✓ Working closely with veterinary professionals and specialists
✓ Providing intensive supportive care and treatment to affected dogs
✓ Increasing medical oversight and monitoring across the rescue
Every decision we make is being guided by one goal: protecting as many lives as possible.
Why We Need Your Help
Responding to a distemper outbreak is incredibly expensive. Every test, veterinary exam, treatment, medication, quarantine area, cleaning supply, and medical procedure creates additional costs that were never budgeted for. At the same time, our normal operations have slowed as resources are redirected toward containment and care.
The dogs still need food.
They still need housing.
They still need medical treatment.
And they still need us.
Today, we are asking our community to stand with us during one of the most challenging moments in our organization’s history. Your donation will help fund:
-
Diagnostic testing
-
Veterinary care and treatment
-
Medical supplies and medications
-
Enhanced sanitation efforts
-
Quarantine and isolation resources
-
Daily care for nearly 1,000 animals in our program
